It's time for a break from my scribblings about emails, messages and meets with my mentourage to answer a question from a dear reader:
Q. What gifts have men given you?
A. Not much.
I so appreciate them paying for meals and hotels, and that is plenty!
I'm not sure why, but I don't inspire most men to give me things. And that is mostly fine. I am not a collector of anything, and I don't wear much jewelry or perfume or lingerie.
I can only think of three times a nice man gave me a gift:
1) Kris Kringle gave me flowers on our third meet.
2) Jeremy gave me a can of Olipop fiber soda I couldn't find in my grocery stores on our 85th meet, and
3) Daniel was incredibly generous at our 6th meet when I stayed over at his mother's condo while she was away for the winter. He cooked for us!
When I walked into the kitchen, he pointed at the table and said, "for you." There was a big plastic box of Ferrero Roche hazelnut chocolate truffles, a bag of Aldi oatmeal raisin cookies he had baked, and a Ziploc bag of bacon - he said he had burned it, but it tasted perfect and crunchy to me! He also gave me a fancy Revomax black water bottle with a pressurized stopper! He sheepishly admitted he got it for free for work, but I assured him I appreciated it. It stopped me from spending money on plastic water bottles. It keeps water cold for over 24 hours! That is only gift I still have. I use it every day.

Gifts are problematic for several reasons, so I don't expect them. Apparently I am unusual in that attitude.
It can be tricky for men to spend money on gifts - I don't want them to have a strange charge on their credit card or spend too much cash and make their wife suspicious.
I did get weirded out when Philip bought a nice lady a $2k sofa for her new apartment, and flew her to CA to join him on a business trip... but I didn't need it. (She dumped him soon after that, when she realized he would never leave his wife. *sigh)
I give men gifts all the time - usually small items that won't stick out around their homes, or snacks they can eat at the hotel or in the car. I sent Philip books and a t-shirt to his office once, but he said it was awkward to explain to his assistant who opened the package, so I stopped.
I give Jeremy snacks every time I see him, and one time there was a t-shirt from an organization I support that I got for free when I ordered two other ones. He delights in wearing it in the winter under a sweater or jacket. And I snagged books from the local Little Free Library I thought he might like.
The men I have met have given me incredible, intangible gifts which are more valuable than any physical item!
